Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum Exhibition: "Weaving Love, Carving Prayer—Lithuanian Handicrafts—"

At the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the exhibition "Weaving Love, Engraving Prayer—Lithuanian Handicrafts—" will be held from Saturday, January 16 to Sunday, March 28, 2027.

Lithuania is one of the so-called Baltic states, sandwiched between Scandinavia and Russia, and the beautiful old town of the capital, Vilnius, was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1994. Lithuanian handicrafts, along with language, folklore, and songs, have been cherished and nurtured as expressions that preserve Lithuania's ancient culture.
This exhibition is the first in Japan to fully showcase the diverse handicrafts of Lithuania, with the full cooperation of the National Museum of Lithuania, the National Gallery of Lithuania, and the National M.K. Čurlionis Museum.
Items born from people's daily lives—such as boards for spinning thread called 'velpste'—aprons and linens, woodwork like chairs and towel racks, ceramics, and rattan baskets—are all displayed in one place, along with a wide variety of faith-based items like crosses, sacred statues, and prints.
