The Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum will hold the "Marimekko Exhibition: The Power of Patterns Marimekko: Art of Printmaking -Beauty, Dream, Love" from Saturday, October 3, 2026 ~ Sunday, December 20, 2026.
Marimekko, Finland's leading design house. Its name means "Marie's Dress."
Since its founding in 1951, we have created designs that brighten our lives—from fashion and interiors to tableware and everyday accessories—through vibrant colors and bold patterns.
To date, more than 3,500 print designs have been released, widely supported across generations and borders.
This exhibition delves into Marimekko's aesthetics and the background behind its creation, through materials that convey rare dresses and fabrics from various eras, as well as the production process.
Furthermore, the site of the print factory, which forms the core of manufacturing, will be introduced through video installations by the art unit plaplax.
Attention is also drawn to the exhibition by guest designer Akira Minagawa.
The venue, the former Asaka-no-miya Residence, is a space based on 1930s French Art Deco decoration, with Japanese designs throughout.
In this place where patterns live in the details of architecture, we shed light on the 'power of patterns' that colors and shapes bring about.
Experience Marimekko's printmaking techniques and creative aesthetics firsthand.
