NEWoMan Takanawa is a commercial landmark at the heart of TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY. Takanawa SAUNAS is situated on the 5th floor of its North Area.

Access is virtually direct from Takanawa Gateway Station. After exiting the ticket gates, head toward the building on your right. Take the elevator or escalator located around the right-hand passageway up to the 5th floor to reach the entrance floor.

Takanawa SAUNAS was overall produced by manga artist Katsuki Tanaka, author of "Manga Sado" and a key figure who sparked Japan's modern sauna movement. The space is thoughtfully designed as an urban sauna facility that expands upon the core sauna experience of sauna rooms, cold plunges, and rest areas.

Start by placing your shoes in a shoe locker. The wristband attached to your locker key serves as your cashless payment method for the shop, restaurant, and vending machines. You will settle all charges, including the entrance fee, upon exiting.
Both check-in and check-out are fully self-service. After checking in at the kiosk, simply scan the QR code on your wristband at the entrance gate to enter.

The functional layout leads smoothly from the lounge facing the entrance to separate men's and women's changing rooms and bath areas. The facility is almost entirely barrier-free.

Upon entering, your eyes will immediately be drawn to the Aroma Lab adjoining the lounge. Essential oils are extracted on-site from herbs and wood chips using distillation equipment, which are then used for löyly (steam generation). Having custom distillation equipment inside an urban sauna facility is exceptionally rare.
The scents are blended with the seasons in mind, allowing guests to enjoy completely natural, plant-derived aromas rather than artificial fragrances while inside the sauna rooms.

Monitors placed throughout the facility display the schedule for the day's retreats taking place in each sauna room. Guests can check these guides to drop in on any retreat that catches their interest.

Unlike typical bathhouses, visible signage and posters are kept to an absolute minimum, and the lockers feature a clean, minimal design. By minimizing visual information, the facility creates a soothing environment where guests can simply relax through their senses.
Skincare amenities, such as lotions, are provided by OSAJI (just like at Shibuya SAUNAS). Hairdryers, hairbrushes, toothbrushes, cotton swabs, and other essential toiletries are fully provided.

The lettering on signboards and locker numbers throughout Takanawa SAUNAS was crafted by dye artist Keita Miyairi. The distinctive font adds a uniquely artistic flair to the venue.

The bathing area features five sauna rooms for men and three for women, along with two types of cold plunges and warm baths in both sections.
Stepping into the men's bath area, you are first greeted by a circular cold plunge bath, which periodically features water showering down from above. You can cool down your heated body using either this iconic center pool or the lie-down cold plunge bath.

""SOUND,"" a sauna room accommodating up to 40 people, is equipped with a high-resolution, premium sound system. Designed with an angled, non-flat ceiling, the room allows rich audio waves to resonate gently.
Retreats such as Aufguss performances are held here, offering an immersive experience where you melt into the harmony of sound and steam.

"HAMON" is an installation sauna room inspired by the traditional Native American sweat lodge. Beautifully programmed water ripples dynamically expand across the ceiling, paired with ambient music composed by Kengo Tokusashi—a leading artist in sauna music—offering a deeply comforting experience that grounds your soul.

"ARC" features a unique spiral architecture, allowing guests to experience varying temperatures and steam intensity depending on their elevation within the room. Feel free to sit cross-legged or lie back on the spacious benches when space permits to unwind in whatever posture feels best.

""VALO,"" where the heater is positioned behind the seating area, is designed for aromatic appreciation. Essential oils diffused from the walls and natural light reflecting off water surfaces outside create a serene atmosphere.
To help guests immerse themselves in pure sensory experience rather than active thought, none of the sauna rooms contain televisions or traditional 12-minute sauna clocks.

True to its name, "PANORAMA" is equipped with expansive panoramic windows. The bench seating is elevated high above the floor, giving you a floating sensation as your feet hover above the ground.

Like the men's area, the women's bath area centers around a main cold plunge bath, accompanied by a lying cold plunge. Both the men's and women's sections feature drinking water stations and rest chairs, allowing guests to savor their sauna session in whatever rhythm they prefer.

""MAALI,"" located in the women's area, regularly hosts original retreats utilizing body scrubs, mineral mud, and herbs. To accommodate these diverse programs, it replaces rigid built-in benches with easily movable stools.
The floor features tiled surfacing with drainage, designed specifically to rinse away water, mud, and scrubs cleanly.

""LEAVES"" is a room dedicated to herbal wellness. Guests can enjoy soothing aromas rising with the steam from fresh herbs placed in pots atop the sauna stove, as well as essential oils diffused from the walls.
The eye-catching wall artwork was designed by Asuka Watanabe, known for her art direction at Fuji Rock Festival.

"PANORAMA" in the women's area offers the same stunning cityscape views of Takanawa through its wide, scenic windows as its male counterpart.

A gushing shower designed for instant cooling—pulling the chain releases a torrential splash of water from above. Standard shower booths are, of course, also provided.

Takanawa SAUNAS offers private sauna bookings available by advance reservation. Suitable for individuals or groups of up to five people, co-ed groups can enjoy the private suite together by wearing swimsuits.

""HUONE,"" the private sauna room equipped for Whisking, was supervised by sauna enthusiast comedian and Whisking Master Magu Mamphei.

"NAP" is a designated space for rest and recovery. Relaxing here for 15 to 30 minutes after your sauna session helps refresh both body and mind.
